Art Therapist Cathy Stevens Truitt
I practice Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy in San Diego, California. My practice is located at in Sorrento Valley, conveniently accessible via the I-5, I-805, and 56 freeways.
I work with individuals, couples, families, children, and groups on such issues as post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, violent behavior, boundary problems, substance abuse, coming out, financial stresses, communication in intimate relationships, and family adjustments to changes such as divorce, remarriage, and the launching of children.
The artwork displayed on this website is my own. These pieces were created as I learned therapeutic theories by personally applying them. The process was a tumultuous experience that led me to a deep respect for my clients as they travel on their own journeys of self-exploration, growth, and healing. Because art is such a powerful window into our inner lives, I continue to make art myself. This is a vital part of my practice, as well as my continuing personal growth.
I fell in love with art therapy as a fine arts undergraduate student, when I took an Introduction to Art Therapy elective course. After working with parolees for an afternoon with my class, amazed at how creating art together deepened communication, I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life.
